Dogs for the Deaf, Inc.

Established in 1977, Dogs for the Deaf is a nonprofit organization that rescues dogs from shelters, professionally trains them to serve as the ears of people who are deaf or hard of hearing, and places them nationwide and in Canada free of charge.

The dogs are trained to alert the people to environmental sounds such as the smoke alarm, door knock/bell, baby cry, alarm clock, oven buzzer, or someone calling the person's name.

The association also trains and places dogs with people who are affected by strokes, Alzheimer's, Autism, Cerebral Palsy, depression and other physical and mental challenges where dogs can make a tremendous difference in their lives. These dogs are known as Miracle Mutts (Special Dogs for special people) and Autism Assistance Dogs (Dogs for Children with Autism).

The dogs have been credited with saving lives, enhancing parenting skills, increasing employability, and providing the priceless gifts of freedom, independence, and love.

Note: This organization is available for interviews using Skype software.
